Great Ocean Road Closure - Our great ocean road day tour will not operate these days

Melbourne Coastal Touring's Great ocean road day tour will not running between Sun 24th Aug - Thurs 28th Aug.

Wildlife Tours are running however expect an extra 1.5hr+ extra driving time on your journey.No Koala viewing at Kennett River.

On Sunday 24 August 2014, VicRoads will temporarily close the Great Ocean Road to all traffic between Wye River and Kennett River. The closure will take place from 6pm Sunday 24 August and remain closed for four days. The road is expected to reopen on Thursday 28 August at 6pm. In the case of wet weather the closure will be postponed until the following Sunday. Access will remain available to all towns including Wye River, Kennett River, Lorne and Apollo Bay and drivers are urged to plan their journey in advance to allow extra time. See the Great Ocean Road detour map for an alternate route for those needing to navigate around the closure. On-road signage will also assist to direct traffic. The closure is essential to replace a damaged culvert under the road and has been programmed to at a time of year to minimise disruptions.

Travelling east from Apollo Bay to Lorne

  • diverted along Forrest-Apollo Bay Road towards Birregurra and the Princes Highway.

Travelling west from Lorne to Apollo Bay

  • diverted along the Deans Marsh-Lorne Road towards Winchelsea or Birregurra and the Princes Highway.

The detour route between Lorne and Apollo Bay is about 88 kilometres and may add up to one hour to the journey. Drivers are urged to plan in advance and allow extra time. Access to Wye river and Kennett River These towns remain accessible. Those wishing to travel to Wye River from the east can proceed as normal from Lorne, or if travelling from the west, take the detour route along Forrest-Apollo bay Road. Those wishing to drive to Kennett River from the west can proceed as normal from Apollo Bay, or from the east take the detour route along Deans Marsh-Lorne Road. From Melbourne

  • If heading to Lorne or Wye River proceed as normal.

  • If travelling between Melbourne and Apollo Bay, plan in advance to allow extra time or consider using the inland route along the Princes Highway.
